CHRISTMAS IS COMING, IT WILL JUST BE NEEDLESSLY MORE EXPENSIVE THIS YEAR.

Christmas is the most magical time of the year and an $8 billion industry in the United States but now it’s in jeopardy. You see, all of the businesses that design, sell, distribute, and retail Christmas items are at risk of going out of business even before the calendar hits December 25th.

Christmas businesses are now forced to pay a 30% tax by the government on products that are not made domestically. For any businesses importing, this is an up-front payment that they did not budget for.

The Christmas industry is big business in the US. There are dozens upon dozens of US importers and hundreds of retail stores that rely on their products. With 90% of all Christmas products produced in China and no US manufacturing options, the importers must place their orders at the beginning of the year to allow enough time for the goods to be manufactured in China, transported across the ocean to be warehoused and distributed to retail stores. Retail stores in turn, must have enough time to set up their store’s displays and price all the merchandise.

At 145%, simply no importers or retailers were even going to accept product, so everything was on hold. Now that the tariff is lowered to 30%, some retailers are still cancelling orders because they don’t want their customers to pay 30% more. With a 90 “pause” everyone is rushing to ship their goods so freight rates are sky-rocketing.

TARIFFS = EXPENSIVE CHRISTMAS

Blanket tariffs on a country do nothing but raise the prices. Without a domestic industry, these tariffs are not protecting any jobs, merely making it harder for American businesses to invest and hire for the Christmas season.
